Cam Schlittler just received significant accolades from David Ortiz … who labeled the Yankees rookie as an “ace” following his outstanding performance on Thursday night.
Just hours after the New York pitcher completed eight innings of shutout baseball in a crucial victory over the Red Sox, Ortiz showered the right-hander with praise.
Cam Schlittler threw 107 pitches tonight
96 were some type of fastball (FF, SI, FC)
61 of them were in the strike zone
64 of them were 98+ MPH
11 of them were 100+MPHDared the Red Sox to hit him and they couldn’t do it. That’s a grown man start.

Big Papi — who had just landed at LAX — expressed that he has already witnessed enough from the flamethrower to consider him a front-of-the-rotation pitcher.
“He’s got it, bro,” Ortiz asserted. “He’s got it. He’s got it.”
“He was dominating us last night.”
Schlittler capped the 4-0 victory with 12 strikeouts and no walks … and a bit of trash talk as well.
Although Ortiz was disappointed with the result — he emphasized that he remains hopeful about the Red Sox’s future.
He conveyed that they simply need to “add some power” in free agency … and he anticipates being right back in contention in 2026.
“We are not far from where we need to be, to be honest with you,” he stated.
Next up for the Yankees is a series against the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, Ortiz has some challenging work ahead … as he is set to join New York legends Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter for Fox’s playoff coverage going forward.
