Today, LG Display is unveiling its 4th-generation OLED TV displays, which not only surpass the brightness levels showcased in 2024 but also exhibit enhanced power efficiency and reduced reflection. Among the standout announcements at CES 2025, the LG OLED evo M5 has captured the attention of tech enthusiasts, thanks to the innovative panels from LG Display that power this remarkable television.
The latest 4th-generation OLED TV panel boasts an impressive maximum brightness of “up to 4,000 nits,” representing a significant 33 percent increase from its predecessor. It’s essential to clarify that maximum brightness does not equate to uniform brightness across the entire display, but this advancement is noteworthy, especially considering that OLED technology has historically struggled with achieving high brightness levels. Coupled with this brightness enhancement is a 20 percent improvement in energy efficiency on a 65-inch panel, making these displays not only brighter but also more environmentally friendly.
The remarkable enhancements in efficiency for the new OLED displays can be attributed to significant advancements in the panel’s structural design and power supply system. Additionally, the brightness enhancements arise from an innovative arrangement of LEDs within the panel. The 4th-generation OLED incorporates a “Primary RGB Tandem structure,” which cleverly stacks independent layers of red and green light elements alongside two blue layers. This multi-layer configuration increases light output, thereby improving both brightness and color purity.
Furthermore, LG Display is enhancing color reproduction and purity with a newly developed film coating that minimizes the light reflective properties of the panel’s surface while also reducing light absorption and reflection within the panel. The company claims that all these advancements aim to create superior AI TVs, but even if that aspect doesn’t resonate with you, it’s clear that televisions featuring these new panels promise to deliver a visually stunning experience.
The 4th-generation OLED panel is set to debut in high-end, mass-produced televisions this year. LG Display has also indicated plans to gradually integrate the “Primary RGB Tandem structure” into future Gaming OLED monitors, further extending the benefits of this groundbreaking technology.
