Published
Newly released body cam footage from the arrest of Luigi Mangione captures the tense moment when police took him into custody inside a McDonald’s following a lengthy five-day manhunt.
In the footage acquired by CNN, an officer instructs Mangione to remove his mask while inside the Altoona, Pennsylvania McDonald’s. The police expressed their strong suspicion that he was “100%” the suspect they were searching for.
After presenting officers with a false identity, they inquired whether his real name was Mark Rosario. Mangione ultimately acknowledged his true identity, admitting he “clearly shouldn’t have” lied to the police.
During a search of his backpack, police discovered a gun magazine concealed in his underwear. One officer could be heard exclaiming, “It’s definitely him, dude.”
Eventually, an officer instructed Luigi to stand up and informed him that a search of his person would take place.
Mangione informed the officers that he was carrying a “jar of peanut butter” on him at the time of his arrest.
Throughout the incident, Mangione maintained a calm demeanor while one officer took his photograph while he was in handcuffs.
After arriving at the police station, officers uncovered the firearm linked to the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Earlier reports indicated that Mangione’s state murder trial has been postponed until October 9.
Following Mangione’s federal guilty plea in August, a Manhattan judge has indefinitely postponed the case while considering his legal team’s double jeopardy motion.
