AI-Powered Photo Editing Tools in iOS 27

Apple is reportedly gearing up to enhance its Apple Intelligence features while addressing existing bugs with the upcoming releases of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 this year. According to a report from Bloomberg, these software updates are expected to introduce more than just a refined version of its Siri assistant. Notably, users can look forward to innovative AI-powered photo editing tools that will enable them to manipulate various aspects of their images, such as changing backgrounds and adjusting framing with ease.

Currently, the Photos app available across Apple’s ecosystem allows users to enhance their images by adjusting parameters like saturation and contrast, applying filters, cropping photos, or utilizing the Clean Up tool to eliminate unwanted objects. Following the updates, this Clean Up tool will become just one of several Apple Intelligence Tools. As reported by Bloomberg, users can also expect to access features such as Extend, which will allow them to use generative AI to broaden the background of their photos, Enhance for automatic improvements in lighting and image quality, and Reframe to adjust the perspective of taken photos, particularly benefiting those utilizing Apple’s spatial photo capabilities.

If these new features are launched, they will significantly elevate Apple’s photo-editing capabilities, bringing them closer to those of rivals such as Google and Samsung. However, both companies currently surpass Apple in their ability to create entirely AI-generated images. For instance, Google’s Magic Editor feature, which was introduced in 2023, remains a standout tool that provides users with extensive options to creatively modify their photos.

In addition to the new photo editing capabilities, Apple is also set to unveil an upgraded version of Siri, which will be powered by Google’s Gemini models. This new iteration of Siri will feature a standalone app and enhanced AI-powered search functionalities within its applications. Anticipation is building for the official introduction of these exciting features, which are likely to be announced during Apple’s WWDC keynote presentation on June 8.
