AI Model of Mark Zuckerberg in Development by Meta

Spread the love

This week, if you’re seeking the most questionable AI initiative, look no further than Meta. As reported by the Financial Times, the company is in the process of developing a unique Mark Zuckerberg AI, specifically trained to emulate Zuckerberg’s distinctive mannerisms, tone, and publicly accessible statements. This AI will essentially embody the essence of its creator. (Will it also master the art of smoking meats?)

Meta has been diligently working on creating photorealistic, 3D-animated AI characters designed to handle various interactions. Recently, however, the focus has shifted towards this Zuckerberg AI character, which is intended to engage with employees in place of the actual CEO. This raises eyebrows, especially considering past instances where the Meta leader introduced legs to the metaverse. Let’s hope a more robust framework is on the horizon soon.

Why Are Multiple Organizations, Including the ACLU, Concerned About This Technology?

TMA

A coalition of civil rights organizations has issued a serious warning about the potential dangers associated with the integration of this technology into the company’s smart glasses. Over 70 advocacy groups have called on Zuckerberg to reconsider the plans to embed this technology, citing serious concerns that it could facilitate stalking, empower sexual predators, and enable other malicious actors. They are also demanding transparency regarding past or ongoing communications with federal law enforcement entities, including ICE, concerning the utilization of Meta’s smart glasses and other wearable devices, as highlighted in a report by Wired.

Adding to the unsettling nature of these developments, The New York Times revealed that Meta circulated an internal memo last year suggesting that the rollout of this technology could occur “during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.” In essence, the company considered launching this feature when opposition would be minimal or scattered. This coalition has labeled such strategies as “vile behavior,” indicating a troubling willingness to exploit the current climate of “rising authoritarianism.”

In a recent memo, Xbox’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, indicated that the current pricing structure of the Game Pass subscription service may be deemed excessive by players. She pointed out that, according to the memo reviewed by The Verge, “In the short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation.”

Microsoft has raised the price of Game Pass twice within a span of 15 months, which has not gone unnoticed as many popular Xbox exclusives have begun appearing on competing platforms like PlayStation. Despite this, the Game Pass continues to expand its offerings: the April update features indie titles such as Hades 2 and Double Fine’s Kiln, in addition to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. As reported by The Verge, the inclusion of the CoD franchise might have been a factor leading to the price hikes of Game Pass, given that historically, purchasing the game outright was often less advantageous than opting for a one-month subscription.

What’s the Latest on Apple’s Smart Glasses Development?

Today’s edition of TMA is packed with interconnected stories. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is poised to unveil its smart glasses by the end of the year, currently testing a variety of four different eyewear styles. Among the styles being considered are a large rectangular frame reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a sleeker rectangular design akin to the one frequently worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook, along with both large and small iterations of oval or circular frames. Additionally, Apple is exploring a range of color options.

Apple’s upcoming smart glasses will directly compete with the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta model. While the designs may share some similarities, Apple aims to distinguish its product with “vertically oriented oval lenses featuring surrounding lights,” as reported. These innovative glasses are designed to capture photos and videos while seamlessly integrating with iPhones, allowing users to leverage Apple’s ecosystem for editing, sharing, and more.
