TikTok is actively enhancing user mental well-being with innovative in-app features focused on promoting mindfulness and mental health. The platform is introducing guided meditation sessions and bolstering support for mental health services, allowing users to access necessary assistance directly through the app.
To kick things off, TikTok is unveiling a new guided meditation feature. This exciting addition will guide users through the meditation experience right within the app, making it easier than ever to embark on a journey towards greater mental clarity and relaxation.
The new guided meditation experience features visually engaging animated prompts that users can easily follow along with. These prompts are designed to aid in regulating breathing patterns and calming the mind, fostering a peaceful atmosphere conducive to relaxation and mindfulness.
This new functionality will seamlessly integrate into TikTok’s existing sleep prompts, encouraging users to take a well-deserved break from scrolling and immerse themselves in a calming meditation session.
According to TikTok:
“Research indicates that mindful meditation can significantly enhance sleep quality across various age groups. Therefore, we are thrilled to launch our Meditation in Sleep Hours feature for all users, regardless of age. For our teen users under 18, this feature will be enabled by default. If a teen continues using TikTok past 10 PM, their For You feed will be interspersed with guided meditation exercises to assist them in winding down for a restful night.”
Now, users will receive gentle reminders to pause their scrolling and start focusing on relaxation, an approach that has already shown promising results:
“In our trials, an impressive 98% of teens who engaged with TikTok’s meditation feature chose to keep the experience active.”
While the benefits of meditation vary among individuals, the integration of these prompts aims to raise awareness about relaxation techniques and self-regulation strategies, making them accessible to a wider audience.
TikTok is also collaborating with renowned child psychiatrist Dr. Willough Jenkins to launch a new series that will demonstrate the Meditation in Sleep Hours feature in action, providing further insights into its benefits.
@drwilloughjenkins Sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have for mental health, especially for teens. However, winding down can be challenging. That’s why I’m excited about TikTok’s new Meditation in Sleep Hours feature. It assists both teens and adults in stepping away from their screens and embracing a calmer night through guided meditations, soothing music, and reminders to rest. To activate this feature: Navigate to Settings and Privacy > Screen Time > Sleep Hours, set your bedtime, and let the app guide you to relax. Let’s cultivate better sleep habits together. #TikTokPartner #TikTokMeditation #SleepWell #BetterSleep ♬ Aesthetic – Tollan Kim
In addition, TikTok is committing to a donation of $2.3 million in advertising credits to support 31 mental health organizations across 22 countries globally, as part of its expanded Mental Health Education Fund.

The provision of these advertising credits will empower these organizations to connect with users on TikTok who may be in need of support, potentially leading to increased access to valuable assistance and resources.
Considering TikTok’s extensive reach and popularity, especially among impressionable young audiences, these initiatives are crucial for fostering connections between users and the support they require, as well as promoting professional mental health services.
These efforts may also help to alleviate concerns among regulators regarding TikTok’s commitment to supporting teen users. Various regions are contemplating stricter age restrictions on social media platforms to mitigate their potential negative impacts on mental health.
However, with enhanced in-app measures like these, TikTok has the potential to address these concerns effectively, ensuring it can reach and benefit a larger audience.
