Young Thug Responds to Prosecutors’ Probation Revocation Motion

Roommates, Young Thug swiftly addressed the recent legal challenges posed by prosecutors as they seek to restrict his freedom further. The rapper is currently on a 15-year probation following a plea deal he accepted in October 2024. On Wednesday (April 2), the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion requesting a judge to revoke Jeffrey Williams’ probation. This action follows a heated social media post where Thugger criticized DA Marissa Viverito, which has since been deleted.

Comprehensive Overview of Fulton County Prosecutors’ Motion Against Young Thug

The Fulton County prosecutors appear to be determined to see the Atlanta rapper serve a total of 20 years in prison due to alleged probation violations. Their court motion claims that Thugger has engaged in “conduct that threatens the safety of witnesses and prosecutors” and “compromises ongoing legal proceedings.” Consequently, they are requesting the “immediate revocation of probation.” The legal documents classifying the artist as “a clear and present danger to public safety” indicate the seriousness of the situation.

The STRONG motion against Young Thug follows his public criticism of Marissa Viverito on X, previously known as Twitter. Court documents indicate that Viverito is currently testifying in a complex multi-defendant gang murder preliminary hearing. A judge had previously restricted the media from revealing her identity during the testimony, but it seems this order was disregarded by an unnamed blogger, raising questions about courtroom integrity.

On April 1, Thugger shared an image of the district attorney on X, stating, “Marissa Viverito is the biggest liar in the DA’s office.” This tweet gained significant traction, amassing over two million views and eliciting numerous comments, many critical of Viverito. However, this post has since been removed from Thugger’s profile.

Fulton County prosecutors allege that Young Thug’s social media activity has incited a barrage of threats directed at Viverito. Reportedly, one of his fans disclosed the addresses of both the attorney and her parents. Additionally, another individual posted an encouragement for people to “pull up” on Marissa’s mother. A separate post even threatened the assassination of Fani Willis, who has been a significant player in the prosecution during the RICO trial against Thugger.

“This ongoing manipulation of public perception through social media is intended to obstruct justice, silence witnesses, and threaten those who enforce the law,” stated the court documents.

Prosecutors assert that Thugger has breached the terms of his probation by endangering public safety through his tweet and other social media posts. “The integrity of this Court and the safety of those involved in this prosecution are at stake. The Defendant’s probation should be immediately revoked to prevent further harm, ensure compliance with the law, and send a clear message that witness intimidation and threats against public officials will not be tolerated,” the documents emphasize.

Young Thug Responds to Prosecutors’ Motion with Personal Statement

Prosecutors are pushing for Young Thug to be taken into custody without delay. Nevertheless, the rapper’s attorneys are open to an immediate hearing to either revoke or modify the terms of Thugger’s probation. Furthermore, the District Attorney’s Office has requested that the rapper reimburse them for the increased security measures that were necessitated by the recent threats. In light of the prosecutor’s motion, Thugger returned to X to share a public service announcement regarding his character. Although the controversial tweet about Marissa is no longer visible, it has garnered over 700,000 views and continues to rise.

“I don’t make threats to people. I’m a good person. I would never condone anyone threatening anyone or participate in threatening anyone. I’m all about peace and love,” Young Thug stated.

Key Insights into Young Thug’s Trial and Probation Conditions

Many may recall that Young Thug’s trial gained notoriety for its lengthy proceedings, ultimately earning the title of the longest trial in Georgia’s history. Jury selection alone spanned an astonishing 10 months, with actual testimony not commencing until November 2023. By that point, it had been over a year since Atlanta officials initially detained Thugger on conspiracy and racketeering charges back in May 2022.

Almost a year after the trial commenced, Young Thug reached a plea agreement, admitting guilt to six counts of gang-related activities. He entered a no contest plea regarding one count associated with leading a street gang and one count for conspiracy to violate the RICO Act.

During a subsequent hearing, despite prosecutors advocating for a staggering 25-year sentence in prison and an additional 20 years on probation, the judge appeared to show some leniency toward the rapper. Ultimately, Thugger was sentenced to 40 years, which included five years in prison. However, his prison time was commuted to time served, and the judge arranged for the extra 20 years to be “backloaded.” If Thugger commits any probation violations, he will automatically be required to serve the full term.

Additional terms of his probation included a 10-year restriction from the Atlanta metro area. He is also mandated to host four concerts or events denouncing gang violence while ensuring he does not glorify gangs in any manner. Despite these restrictions, Young Thug has been granted permission to travel for work-related purposes.
