The Xbox gaming console has evolved significantly since its early days as a bulky device. Recently, it has transformed into an innovative Asus gaming handheld, and there are even rumors of a new VR headset on the horizon. According to a leaked image shared on X and Game Sandwich, Xbox is reportedly collaborating with Meta to launch an Xbox-branded Quest 3S headset in the near future. The anticipated specifications indicate a design closely resembling the standard Quest 3S, featuring 128GB of storage. Moreover, this headset is expected to come packaged with an Xbox wireless controller, a Meta Quest Elite strap, and a complimentary three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass.
While neither Xbox nor Meta has made an official statement regarding this collaboration, a blog post from 2024 highlighted their joint effort to “develop a limited-edition Meta Quest, inspired by Xbox.” It is wise to approach this speculation with caution; however, it appears Xbox is keen on expanding its hardware potential through partnerships with other tech companies, as demonstrated by the recent launch of the ROG Xbox Ally.
Regarding the anticipated Xbox version of the Meta Quest 3S, it seems that current owners of the standard headset might not be the primary audience for this new offering, given that they can already access Xbox Game Pass on their devices. Instead, this VR headset could be strategically marketed as an attractive entry point for newcomers to virtual reality, particularly those who are already accustomed to the Xbox ecosystem. Sources from Game Sandwich suggest that this Xbox-branded VR headset is expected to retail at $399 and is set to launch on June 24.
