Rode has unveiled the innovative Wireless Micro, an affordable two-mic kit priced at just $149. Designed specifically for content creators on platforms like TikTok, this kit aims to significantly enhance audio quality, surpassing the limitations of standard smartphone microphones. The Wireless Micro is an excellent solution for those looking to elevate their audio production without breaking the bank.
The user-friendly receiver connects seamlessly to your smartphone via either a USB-C or lightning port. The microphones, referred to as transmitters, attach conveniently to the subject using integrated clips or magnetic attachments. Rode promises what it describes as “pristine” audio quality, boasting a frequency range of 20-20 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 73 dB, with an impressive transmission range of approximately 330 feet, making it perfect for various recording environments.
To get started, simply connect the receiver to your iOS or Android device, and it automatically takes over as the system microphone, streamlining the setup process. The transmitter microphones are designed to pair effortlessly with the receiver, ensuring that audio is captured directly to your preferred camera app. Additionally, Rode’s advanced GainAssist technology automatically adjusts audio levels, allowing users to focus more on their creative process rather than technical settings.
Each omnidirectional transmitter weighs a mere 12 grams (0.42 ounces), making them incredibly lightweight and discreet when clipped onto your subject. The built-in microphones utilize Rode’s unique “acoustic chambers” with a patent-pending design, which is engineered to produce clear and intelligible sound while minimizing wind noise. For added protection against the elements, the kit includes a pair of windmuffs, ensuring versatility in different recording conditions.
The Wireless Micro kit also comes with a convenient charging case that provides up to two complete recharges, delivering an impressive total of 18 hours of battery life. This case not only extends the usability of the microphones but also serves as a secure storage solution, keeping everything organized and protected when not in use.
However, there are some notable limitations to consider. Unlike other Rode wireless mics or the DJI Mic 2, the Wireless Micro does not support external microphones connected to the transmitters. Furthermore, it lacks Bluetooth capability for smartphones and does not offer a 3.5mm connection for cameras, a feature expected to be available in the upcoming DJI Mic Mini. Nonetheless, for smartphone-centric creators, the Wireless Micro stands out as an excellent option. It is now available as a complete two-mic kit, receiver, and charging case for just $150, making it a valuable investment for enhancing your audio quality.
