Another day brings another unusual gaffe from Donald Trump.
After attending the recent NATO summit, Trump, while discussing the escalating tensions with Iran, mistakenly referred to the nation as “the Islamic Republic of Japan,” confusing it with another country. He claimed that missiles had been launched at a US air carrier by this fictional entity.
In the clip from The Daily Show featured above, host Ronny Chieng humorously reacts to Trump’s words.
“Oh my God. We’re losing the war with Iran so badly that it has turned Japan into an Islamic state,” Chieng quips. “It sounds ridiculous when Trump says it, but if someone mentioned the Islamic Republic of Japan as a trendy new fusion restaurant in Bushwick, you’d hipsters be lining up around the block.”
