After spending a few years integrating its open-source Llama AI model into its Connect conferences, Meta is taking a significant step forward by organizing a dedicated generative AI-focused developer conference known as LlamaCon, scheduled for April 29. This groundbreaking event is entirely virtual, allowing participants worldwide to engage and enjoy the experience live via the Meta for Developers Facebook page. Attendees can look forward to a comprehensive exploration of the latest advancements in generative AI technologies and innovations.
LlamaCon will commence at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT with an insightful keynote address delivered by notable figures including Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, Vice President of AI Manohar Paluri, and research scientist Angela Fan. This keynote is expected to delve into the advancements in the company’s open-source AI community, provide updates on the Llama collection of models and tools, and unveil a sneak peek of forthcoming AI features that promise to revolutionize the field.
Following the keynote address, attendees can look forward to a thought-provoking discussion at 1:45 PM ET / 10:45 AM PT, featuring Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi. This conversation will center around the theme of “building AI-powered applications.” Later in the evening at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, Zuckerberg will engage in a dialogue with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, focusing on “the latest trends in AI.” While it seems that these discussions may not break any major news, the previous collaborations between Microsoft and Meta hint at potential surprises.
Historically, Meta has not waited for conferences to announce updates regarding Meta AI or the Llama model. The company recently unveiled its new Llama 4 family of models, which are specifically designed to excel in image understanding and document parsing, just a few weeks prior to LlamaCon. As of now, it remains uncertain what new models or products Meta may have in store for attendees at LlamaCon, which could potentially reshape industry standards.
LlamaCon will be broadcast live on April 29th through the Meta for Developers Facebook page, and for those unable to attend, we will be live-blogging the event here on Engadget, ensuring you receive all the latest updates and insights as they unfold.
