In a significant development, President Donald Trump is poised to grant TikTok yet another temporary extension amidst ongoing discussions about a potential ban in the United States. This latest decision comes as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Tuesday that Trump plans to sign an additional executive order, effectively prolonging the deadline for TikTok’s future. The administration’s commitment to this matter highlights the complex dynamics surrounding social media and data privacy concerns in America.
This new extension, set for a period of 90 days, marks the third postponement of a TikTok ban since Trump assumed office. “As he has reiterated on numerous occasions, President Trump aims to ensure that TikTok does not become unavailable to American users,” Leavitt stated, as reported by CNN. “This extension will provide the Administration with sufficient time to finalize a deal, allowing the American public to continue enjoying TikTok while ensuring their data remains protected and secure.”
Currently, U.S. officials are actively engaged in negotiations concerning the terms of a potential acquisition deal that would enable TikTok to continue its operations within the United States. However, updates on these discussions have been scarce since the previous developments in April. Multiple companies have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. operations, but any agreement would require approval from Chinese authorities. Reports from April indicated that a potential deal might entail the company’s existing U.S. investors transferring their stakes into a newly formed entity, a process complicated by Trump’s tariffs on imports from China.
