The community mourns the tragic loss of Tiger Bech, who had his life cut short on New Year’s Day. The football world is reeling as his high school coach reflects on the impact of this talented player and the void his passing has left behind.
“Losing someone is always painful, but losing someone like Tiger in such a heartbreaking manner, especially on a holiday when he had returned to connect with family and friends, is truly devastating,” shared Marty Cannon, who transitioned from being an assistant coach to the principal at St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Louisiana, during an interview with Babcock on the TMZ Sports TV show, which airs nightly on FS1.
“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Bech family. They are a close-knit group that we hold dear, and they have always shown immense affection for St. Thomas More. The pain felt today is profound and shared by many in our community,” Cannon expressed with deep emotion.
At just 28 years old, Tiger Bech was celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street in New Orleans when he became one of the victims of a horrific attack perpetrated by Shamsud-Din Jabbar. This tragic incident left at least 14 dead and many more injured as it unfolded amidst the festivities.
Though Tiger Bech will primarily be remembered for his accomplishments as a football player, Coach Cannon emphasizes that there were many layers to Tiger’s character and personality that made him truly unique.
“He was an extraordinary individual. Tiger was far more than just a football athlete. He had a remarkable depth to his character. Conversations with him rarely revolved around just football; instead, they often delved into more profound topics,” Cannon remarked.
Cannon elaborated further, saying, “He often engaged in discussions about family, his professional aspirations, and the lessons he was learning in life. Tiger was an incredibly thoughtful, personable individual, and he was deeply cherished by all of us.”
In a bittersweet moment, Coach Cannon reflected on a recent encounter, stating that he had the chance to reconnect with Tiger just two days before Christmas, a brief yet meaningful interaction that he will cherish forever.
“I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to have seen Tiger Bech one last time. That moment will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever appreciate it,” Cannon concluded with a sense of profound gratitude.
