The Game Awards showcased exceptional moments this year. While many of the games I anticipated to win did indeed take home accolades, such as Astro Bot, Balatro, and Metaphor, the event also surprised us with thrilling wildcard trailers. Notably, we were treated to an announcement of a brand new game from the renowned studio Naughty Dog, famous for its captivating storytelling in the Last of Us series. This upcoming title is set thousands of years into the future and follows the adventures of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, a character brought to life by Tati Gabrielle from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This marks a significant milestone for Naughty Dog, as it is their first release since 2005 that does not belong to the Uncharted or Last of Us franchises.
In addition to Naughty Dog’s announcement, we also saw the return of the beloved Witcher franchise with a new game featuring fan-favorite character Ciri, who is set to exhibit her magical prowess. While gameplay footage has not yet been revealed, the anticipation is palpable. Furthermore, Sega is making waves by reviving the iconic Virtua Fighter series as part of its strategy to breathe new life into classic titles. Alongside this, a new brawler game is in the works from the creators of the Like A Dragon series, promising an exciting addition to the fighting game genre.
Capcom is also delving into its rich gaming heritage by bringing back the legendary wolf god in a fresh installment, featuring the enchanting magical ink strokes that captivated players nearly two decades ago. Once again, the original director, Hideki Kamiya, returns to helm this nostalgic revival, ensuring that the essence of the original game is preserved while introducing modern gameplay elements that appeal to today’s gaming audience.
Additionally, fans can look forward to an innovative co-op game titled Split Fiction, developed by the team behind the acclaimed title It Takes Two. This new adventure invites players to traverse between thrilling sci-fi and captivating fantasy realms, offering a unique blend of genres that promises to engage players in cooperative gameplay. Alongside this, we anticipate a new sci-fi project from the visionary creator of The Last Guardian, alongside an intriguing co-op spin-off that hints at even more exciting developments in the gaming landscape.

YouTube and Instagram Set to Gain the Most from Potential TikTok Ban
As a TikTok ban in the United States appears increasingly probable, a recent report from Pew Research highlights the profound impact this app has on its younger audience. The report reveals that TikTok is among the most-utilized social media platforms for teenagers, with an astonishing 57 percent of users aged 13 to 17 engaging with the app daily. This underscores TikTok’s significant role in shaping social media trends and youth culture.
In light of the looming ban, TikTok is facing a narrowing window of options to circumvent the impending restrictions in the United States. The platform recently faced a setback in its legal efforts to contest a law mandating its parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the app or confront a complete ban. TikTok is currently seeking a temporary reprieve from the law, which is scheduled to take effect on January 19, putting the future of the platform in a precarious position.
