The memorial service for D’Angelo occurred at Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia, on Saturday, November 1. The Soultronics and The Vanguard, two of the singer’s former bands, performed musical tributes during the service. Notably, Stevie Wonder sang several songs, including ‘If It’s Magic’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer.’ Additionally, a letter from former President Barack Obama was read to the singer’s family during the event.

What to Know About D’Angelo’s Recent Passing?
As reported previously, D’Angelo passed away in October at the age of 51, reportedly battling pancreatic cancer. His death followed that of fellow singer Angie Stone, who was also the mother of his eldest son.
Later that month, D’Angelo and Stone’s son, Michael Archer II, publicly mourned his father’s passing alongside his sister, Imani, per The Shade Room. Additionally, Lauryn Hill and many celebrities shared their tributes.
Currently, OkayPlayer reports that a public ceremony to honor D’Angelo’s legacy is scheduled for 2026.
