Google has officially discontinued its Pixel Studio app with the recent update, as reported by 9to5Google. This AI-driven image generation tool debuted less than two years ago and underwent a significant content upgrade last year. Following the update, users are now redirected to Gemini for their image generation needs.
The software update that disables Pixel Studio is currently being rolled out, but it may take some time before it reaches all users. When the update is installed, the primary interface features a prominent “Open Gemini” button that directs users to the Play Store. it encourages users to explore Nano Banana for image creation.
The latest update for Pixel Studio signifies the end of the Pixel-exclusive app as users are now directed to utilize Nano Banana within Gemini.

The shutdown of Pixel Studio has been anticipated for some time. Google first announced its plans to phase out the app back in February, gradually removing essential features. For example, several months ago, the photo editing capabilities were entirely stripped of AI functionalities.
Pixel Studio was launched in 2024, coinciding with the release of the Pixel 9 smartphone. Designed specifically for AI image generation, it allowed users to enter prompts for quick image creation and even generated stickers from existing photos. Let’s take a moment to remember this now-defunct app as it joins the ranks of those lost to the Google graveyard.
