Approximately one year ago, the iconic house featured in the 1982 horror classic Poltergeist was listed on the market for the very first time, igniting excitement among horror enthusiasts who eagerly browsed through property images. Fans envisioned themselves stacking chairs in the beautifully preserved retro kitchen and speculated about any mysterious discoveries made while constructing the backyard pool. That initial thrill was delightful, but now there’s even more exhilarating news: the Freeling home is officially available for bookings on Airbnb! Guests can experience the eerie ambiance complete with an old-fashioned television set endlessly broadcasting static (for the brave) and a chilling clown doll (which fans will recognize).
Located in Simi Valley, California, rather than the fictional, ill-conceived suburb known as “Cuesta Verde,” the Poltergeist House boasts its own dedicated website filled with stunning photographs that evoke the essence of the beloved 43-year-old film. Accommodating up to eight guests, thanks to its four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, gathering a group can make the starting price of $800 per night feel more accessible. Guests will also enjoy a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool (which appears to be free of any skeletons) and a hot tub, enhancing the overall experience of this unique stay.
The most remarkable amenity of all, however, is tailored specifically for visitors of the Poltergeist House. As stated on the Airbnb listing, guests can participate in “custom curated experiences featuring static-lit portraits, guided tours, movie screenings, or a night that feels… observed.” Why not add a paranormal investigation to your itinerary? This has been done before, as the house was featured in an episode of Ghost Adventures that aired earlier this year on the Discovery Channel, reminding everyone of the film’s memorable moments and spine-tingling scenes.
If you can’t make the journey to Los Angeles to live out your television fantasies, you can still enjoy the thrill of the Poltergeist experience from afar. You might find yourself whispering iconic lines like “They’re heeeere!” and “You’re jammin’ my frequency” as you admire the captivating images. Here are some of our top picks; visit the Poltergeist House’s website to view all the offerings and discover how to secure your booking for this unforgettable stay.
