Google Confirms Upcoming Release of New Fitness Tracker
Recent leaks have unveiled the name and design of Google’s anticipated “Fitbit Edge” fitness tracker. The company has now confirmed these details through posts on Instagram and X. This new wearable is expected to bridge the gap between the screenless Fitbit Air, launched earlier this year, and the premium Pixel Watch 5.
Google’s promotional content features an image showcasing a side button on the new device, accompanied by the caption: “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26.” The capitalization of “Edge” strongly indicates that this will be the official name of the tracker, while the date likely marks the scheduled reveal.

Images of this upcoming Fitbit device have circulated since August, when 9to5Google discovered an unnamed fitness tracker in Google’s Pixel 11 marketing materials. the official name was only revealed recently when Android Headlines shared images of the Fitbit Edge along with insights into its built-in applications and health tracking capabilities. A report from French magazine Dealabs further confirmed the device’s design, name, battery life, and potential pricing. The Edge is expected to have a battery life of up to seven days with the always-on display disabled and two days with it enabled. Its price is speculated to be around €179 (approximately $200) in Europe. Given that the Fitbit Air starts at $99 in the US and €99 in Europe, the new tracker might retail closer to $180 in the US.
The most recent fitness tracker of similar size released by Google was the Fitbit Charge 6 in 2023, making this new launch timely. If the Fitbit Edge lives up to expectations, it will represent a significant upgrade over the Fitbit Air and may encourage users to subscribe to Google Health Premium. We will have to wait until October 12 to see if Google delivers on these prospects.
