If you’ve been using Sniffies to explore your local area but find the web-based version limiting (especially after the discontinuation of the Sniffies app), there’s exciting news for you: Squirt has just launched its very own iOS app.
What happened to Omegle? The rise and fall of the internet’s favorite stranger danger
This launch comes at a perfect time because I recently included Squirt (a platform that has been around for over two decades, making it older than Grindr) in our roundup of the best gay dating apps. My only criticism was that iPhone users had to rely on their mobile browsers. Given Apple’s strict policies regarding adult content, I never expected a native iOS app to be developed.

“One of the biggest challenges in getting here was modernizing a platform built over 26 years, with layers of infrastructure and evolving technologies,” Andrew Nolan, Head of Dating Businesses at Squirt‘s parent company, Pink Triangle Press, explains to Mashable. “At the same time, the landscape is shifting quickly, with new state-level regulations and increasing requirements around age and ID verification, so having a more flexible, up-to-date foundation means we can move faster and adapt as those changes continue.”

The newly launched app is officially named SQ Dating — Gay Chat & Meet. If you are familiar with Squirt, you know it is a premier, unapologetically “cruising-first” platform. This app serves as a local directory designed specifically for gay, bi, and curious men who are seeking casual, no-strings-attached encounters. The platform is remarkably effective: according to the brand’s 2025 member survey, a striking 80 percent of users reported successfully hooking up through their services.
You can finally browse, chat, and arrange casual meet-ups straight from your home screen.

If you’re asking how a platform that one Reddit user characterized as “very sleazy and slutty” managed to get into the Apple App Store, it was all about strategic planning and execution.
“Getting SQ Dating into the iOS and Android stores is a significant milestone for us,” says Nolan. “The app offers a more streamlined (with additional features on the way), family-friendly way to connect, chat, and date, while still remaining connected to the full Squirt experience on the web, where the environment is much more open and expressive.”
