According to reports from PEOPLE, prosecutors claim that former security guard Jesse Figueroa shot and killed Dr. Cameisha Clark. Fox 5 Atlanta adds that Figueroa allegedly returned to Spartan College and opened fire, targeting both Dr. Clark and her assistant, which has raised significant concerns about safety protocols within educational institutions.

Currently, authorities have not disclosed a clear motive for this shocking act of violence. Law enforcement officials reported that the suspect fled the scene immediately following the incident, but after several hours of searching, he was located and apprehended without further incident.

As detailed by KTLA, Jesse Figueroa was employed by Spartan College as a security guard. Inglewood Mayor James Butts mentioned that Figueroa had only served in this role for a brief period of two months before this tragic event unfolded.

Reports from PEOPLE indicate that Figueroa has been charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and several felony counts related to the possession of firearms. If convicted, these charges could lead to a life sentence in state prison. Additionally, District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman noted that Figueroa faces an additional charge for using a handgun to inflict great bodily injury or death, which carries a potential sentence of 25 years to life.

According to KTLA, authorities have set Figueroa’s bail at an astounding $5 million. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for May 29.
