While the GK1 may lack a keypad—unlike some of ThorBolt’s other models—it compensates with a sleek, rounded design that looks appealing and is user-friendly. The previous models, with their keypads, often had an awkward, flat appearance that felt out of place. In contrast, the GK1’s rounded shape integrates seamlessly into any interior, except for the flat area that houses its fingerprint sensor. This smart door knob can store up to 50 fingerprints, which can easily be added via the ThorBolt Sleekpoint app.

To the fingerprint sensor, the GK1 offers three alternative unlocking methods. Users can unlock the door using Siri on their iPhones, by pressing a button in either the Apple Home app or the Sleekpoint app, or with a traditional physical key. The knob features an electric toggle switch located on the non-keyhole side, allowing users to choose from three modes. Slide the switch left to keep the door permanently unlocked, or right to restrict unlocking to the primary fingerprint only. The center position permits access from any registered fingerprint. The device is powered by four AAA batteries, which are not included, and it includes a USB-C port at the base for temporary power in case the batteries deplete.
The ThorBolt GK1 is priced at $80 on Amazon. While this may be higher than many generic smart knobs available on the market, it reflects its smart home compatibility. The GK1 connects using the Thread protocol, which focuses on smart home networks, but it does not support Matter. It is designed to work solely with Apple Home. This limitation is disappointing, but the use of Thread enhances security as it operates without requiring an internet connection. To connect to Apple Home, a Thread Border router, such as a HomePod Mini or certain models of Apple TV, is necessary.
