In December 2022, it was announced that a production company had signed on to adapt Sloclap’s acclaimed martial arts video game, Sifu, into a feature film. Recently, exciting news has emerged that Netflix is now involved with this highly anticipated project, which appears to have triggered some changes in the production team behind the scenes. This collaboration suggests that Netflix is committed to bringing a dynamic martial arts narrative to its audience, and fans of the game are eager to see how this adaptation unfolds.

The original announcement indicated that Story Kitchen, a company that has built a reputation for transforming video games into films, had secured the rights to develop Sifu. Initially, Derek Kolstad, the visionary writer behind the John Wick franchise, was attached to the project. However, recent developments reveal that while Story Kitchen continues to spearhead the film’s production, Kolstad will no longer be the screenwriter. Instead, T.S. Nowlin, known for his work on the Maze Runner series and Netflix’s The Adam Project, has been brought on board to craft the screenplay, promising a fresh take on this exhilarating story.

Despite the changes in the writing team, the John Wick legacy remains strong within the project. Chad Stahelski, the director renowned for his work on all four John Wick films and an accomplished stunt performer, has joined the production team as a producer. His involvement, along with that of his team at 87Eleven Entertainment, indicates a commitment to high-octane action and choreographed fight sequences that fans have come to expect from both franchises. The intersection of these two worlds creates a buzz of excitement for what is to come.
