On Tuesday, May 6, Rondell took to Instagram to provide his followers with a critical update regarding his health. He explained that his health issues began while he was traveling on April 10. After feeling unwell, he checked into a hospital where doctors diagnosed him with a serious gastrointestinal issue. Although he was discharged two days later, he had to return to the hospital where he learned that he was suffering from pancreatitis. Following extensive testing, he ended up spending nine days in the hospital.
“I got released and thought I was on the road to recovery, but…my pancreas is inflamed and there’s not much you can do about it, but just wait,” Rondell shared, reflecting on his ongoing struggle.
The actor also mentioned that his condition has hindered his ability to return to work, prompting him to establish a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses. He set a fundraising goal of $35,000, and thanks to the generosity of supporters, he has already surpassed that goal, raising over $38,000 with 676 donations. Isabel Beyoso is recognized as the organizer of the fundraiser. In his hospital video, Rondell expressed his heartfelt gratitude for any contributions made by viewers.

As outlined by Johns Hopkins Medicine, pancreatitis refers to the inflammation of the pancreas, which can occur when digestive juices or enzymes attack this vital organ. There are two primary forms of pancreatitis: acute and chronic. Acute pancreatitis manifests suddenly and is typically short-term unless recurrent episodes occur. In contrast, chronic pancreatitis is persistent and can result in permanent damage to the pancreas, leading to scarring of its tissues.
The causes behind this condition can be quite varied, including alcohol abuse, gallstones, abdominal injuries or surgeries, elevated levels of fat or calcium in the bloodstream, tumors, infections, smoking, and numerous other factors. In contrast, the number of hospitalizations for chronic pancreatitis is lower, estimated at 86,000. Research indicates that men, particularly Black men, are at a higher risk for developing this serious condition.
