No. 2 Georgia (6-0) dominated SEC foe Auburn (3-3) in a 45-10 win in Athens on Saturday.
The Bulldogs held a 14-0 lead at halftime over the Tigers before taking over for a 31 point second half to close the game. It wasn’t exactly a perfect start for the Dawgs offense.
Georgia didn’t score in the first quarter and entered halftime with 143 total yards, but rebounded with 357 total yards in the second half. Defensively, the Bulldogs suffocated the Tigers, allowing only 258 total yards in the game.
Junior running back Daijun Edwards had a career game in the Georgia backfield, racking up 83 yards on 12 carries with three touchdowns. True freshman running back Branson Robinson led the team with 98 yards on 12 carries. The Bulldogs ran for a season high 292 yards.
Quarterback Stetson Bennett completed 22 of 32 passes for 208 yards and added 64 yards on three carries and a touchdown on the ground. Sophomore receiver Ladd McConkey led the Dawgs with five catches for 47 yards,
The Georgia defense held Auburn to only 10 first downs, 5 of 17 on third down, and forced a turnover in the win.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the Bulldogs’ performance versus the Tigers.
First half struggles
On 3rd and 1, Milton picked up the first down run but negated by an illegal block on Darnell. 15 yard penalty.
Now it’s a 3rd and 15 from the 35. Auburn jumps.
3rd and 10 from the AU 30: Stetson incomplete.
Podlesny’s field goal is no good.
Ugh.

Looks like a 1970s SEC Classic has broken out. First half ends with game tied 0-0. Georgia with 77 yards to Auburn’s 56.

Well, we haven’t seen a stat like this so far this season…
Georgia has 25 passing yards at the half. I have to note the 118 rushing yds, but interesting nonetheless. @UGAfootballLive

TOUCHDOWN, Daijun Edwards.
Averaging 7.7 yards per carry.

Daijun Edwards has another TD taken off the board with a holding call. Regardless, he’s been making plays all over the place for the Bulldog offense

WOAH!!! Stetson Bennett with the 65 yard touchdown run!!!
— UGA Football Live (@UGAfootballLive) October 8, 2022
Stetson Bennett is the oldest starting quarterback in the SEC and he was eight years old the last time Auburn won in Athens.

Georgia wins 42-10, Stetson Bennett says in the postgame interview “we’ve gotta get our moxie back a bit.”

Run game
Felt like Georgia left 2-3 TD’s on the field and they still beat Auburn 42-10…
The performance we saw in the run game today raises the ceiling for this team a couple notches in my opinion. Get the run and pass clicking at once and this offense will be very scary
— Graham Coffey (@DawgOutWest) October 8, 2022
Determined effort to run the ball from Georgia today.
The desire and intent is clearly there to win the physical battle up front.

Georgia found their run game and the backs that should be running it

DawgNation wanted push in the run game. They are getting it today. Seems like it’s one or the other for this team. @UGAfootballLive

That’s 5 three and outs for the Georgia defense today, a unit missing 2 starters in Jalen Carter and Smael Mondon. Auburn’s longest drive has covered 39 yards https://t.co/YdfFsmrMhn

My grandchildren will one day hear about the time Auburn punted the ball in Sanford Stadium while down 42-10 to the reigning National Champion Georgia Bulldogs. #GoDawgs
