Amazon has officially announced that its highly anticipated 12th annual Prime Day event will take place from June 23 to 26 this year. This marks the second consecutive year that the flagship summer discount extravaganza will extend to four days, a significant increase from its traditional two-day format.
Notably, this year’s Prime Day will occur in June instead of the usual mid-July timeframe. Amazon first hinted at this change in its first-quarter earnings release on April 29, although the mention appeared to be an unintentional oversight.
In the earnings statement, Amazon noted, “Amazon … Shared that Prime Day will take place in most countries in June,” which caught many by surprise since this information had not been officially disclosed prior. Shortly after, Amazon followed up with a blog post to clarify and formally announce the new dates.

“Prime Day is back!” the blog post declared. “Amazon’s annual deals event for Prime members returns this June, featuring discounts on some of the most sought-after brands, trending products, favorites from creators, and exclusive items that enhance the value of this year’s event for our members.”
An Amazon spokesperson shared with Mashable that the decision to shift Prime Day to June was made with shoppers in mind. They did not provide further details but emphasized the importance of timing.
“Every year, we collaborate with our global teams to determine the optimal timing for Prime Day,” they stated. “This year, we believed that hosting the event earlier in the summer would best serve our customers.”
Rival retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have historically launched their own sales in conjunction with Prime Day in July. It is likely that this trend will continue this year, although none of these retailers have made any announcements as of yet.
