Notion is stepping up to challenge Otter.ai with its latest enhancements. On Tuesday, the innovative company unveiled an exciting update for Notion AI, a collection of advanced generative AI capabilities integrated into its widely used note-taking app. One of the standout features included in this update is AI Meeting Notes, which allows users to effectively transcribe and summarize any conversation directly within the Notion platform. This means there’s no longer a need to rely on dedicated software like the aforementioned Otter.ai for capturing meeting details.
If you utilize the Notion Calendar for scheduling, your meeting notifications will now provide an option to initiate an AI Meeting Note page seamlessly. Alternatively, you can simply type “/meeting” to insert a transcription block into an existing note. Every conversation that Notion AI captures is fully searchable within the app, and you can easily integrate the transcriptions into any of your ongoing projects.
In terms of search capabilities, Notion AI has been enhanced to allow users to explore various productivity applications, including Slack, Google Workspace, and GitHub. As long as you’ve established connections with these platforms, Notion can intelligently process natural language queries, such as asking, “What’s the latest update on our upcoming brand campaign?” It will then efficiently categorize results based on their source, streamlining your workflow.
In addition, Notion is introducing a Research Mode that mirrors the Deep Research options from tech giants like Google and OpenAI. Users will now have the capability to prompt Notion’s built-in AI to generate comprehensive reports. A unique aspect of this feature is that Notion AI will draw information not only from online resources but also from your existing projects, enhancing the relevance and personalization of the reports. This feature is being marketed as a significant time-saver, allowing users to “Create project updates, research reports, and internal best practices in minutes with just one prompt,” according to Notion. “We’ve already seen this save days’ worth of time.”
Moreover, if you prefer to interact with AI models such as GPT-4.1 or Claude 3.7 instead of Notion’s built-in chatbot, you can now easily switch between them within the app thanks to a newly introduced model picker. Although the models developed by OpenAI and Anthropic won’t have access to your workspace data, they are great alternatives for users seeking their assistance with general inquiries or those interested in leveraging the reasoning capabilities of Claude 3.7 Sonnet.
As part of this announcement, Notion is also revising its billing structure for AI features. Instead of a standalone plan costing $10 per month, unlimited access to Notion AI will now be included in the company’s Business plan, which is increasing from $15 per month per user to $20 per month per user. Notion justifies this price adjustment by highlighting that it provides users access to multiple tools, including GPT-4.1 and Claude 3.7, all bundled into one comprehensive package. While this may not be a direct comparison to other offerings, such as ChatGPT Plus, which provides expanded limits on features like Advanced Voice mode and Deep Research, many Notion users might find the tradeoff worthwhile for their productivity needs.
If you’re an existing Notion AI subscriber, rest assured that you will retain access to all the AI features available prior to this announcement. For users on the Free and Plus plans, there will be limited trial access to the newly introduced features, allowing you to explore the enhancements.
Update 9:54 AM ET: Notion initially announced a price increase for its Business plan to $30 per month, but it has been clarified that the actual increase is to $20 per month per user.
