Why Did No Actors Of Color Win Awards At The 2026 Primetime Emmys?
As reported by Variety, the 78th Emmy Awards showcased performers who “emerged from underrepresented communities.” This year, 17 actors of color received nominations, marking a 39% drop from last year’s 28 nominees. The peak occurred in 2021, with a record 49 actors of color nominated.
Notably, Variety mentions that earlier in this year’s Emmy cycle, Ernest Harden Jr. and Octavia Spencer received awards for acting or voice-over performances.
What Are Internet Users Saying About The Lack Of Representation At The Emmys?
Social media users took to TSR’s comment section to express their views on the absence of awarded actors of color at this year’s Primetime Emmys.
Instagram user @jaycap14 expressed, “Zendaya made audiences cry in Euphoria, shined like a goddess in The Odyssey, and told Spiderman she doesn’t love him—what’s going on here?”
Meanwhile, Instagram user @jjulianlo remarked, “Racism is still thriving and well-nourished. 😭”
Another Instagram user, @264q__, commented, “Why are you all so shocked? We know they don’t appreciate us.”
Instagram user @bagbaby01_ stated, “Who’s even watching the Emmys anyway?”
Instagram user @tuggawolfie quipped, “The Emmys were tonight? 😂”
In a similar vein, Instagram user @kadeemcvisions added, “Keep attending the Emmys if you want to. Just stop going. 🤷🏽♂️”
Instagram user @dre.sutton1 pointed out, “Being upset that a predominantly white organization favors white nominees is absurd. We can always create our own awards (a wild concept), but just look at how the BET Awards are doing.”
Instagram user @thatgirlonthemoon_ commented, “I don’t understand why we keep asking for a seat at a table that they’ve explicitly told us not to approach. Let’s skip the ceremonies and create our own awards that truly represent us, with judges who reflect our community.”
Instagram user @officialbravonation_ suggested, “Perhaps the winners genuinely deserved their awards. 🤷🏾♀️”
Instagram user @mr_mcvw remarked, “There’s too much happening in the world to be concerned about an award ceremony.”
