Not everyone had the financial means to invest in the original Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System when it launched in the 1990s. However, for those who now possess disposable income, there’s a remarkable opportunity to relive this classic gaming experience. SNK and Plaion Replai, the creative minds behind the sleek all-black remake of the Commodore 64, have joined forces to introduce a stunning remake of this iconic retro console, aptly named the Neo Geo AES+.
To modernize the original console and make it more accessible to today’s gamers, the collaboration has incorporated several exciting features. The new version boasts HDMI compatibility, allowing for crystal-clear resolutions up to 1080p. Additionally, it includes DIP switches located on the underside of the console, which facilitate language selection, overclocking options, and various display modes. As a cherry on top, the Neo Geo AES+ now offers a permanent high score retention feature via a memory card and incorporates a low-power usage mode. For enthusiasts who cherish the nostalgia of retro gaming, it still supports those classic CRT displays thanks to the original AV output.
Preorders are currently available for two distinct versions of the Neo Geo AES+. The first is an exclusive all-white 35th anniversary edition bundle, which includes an Arcade Stick, a limited-edition Metal Slug game cartridge, and a memory card for the price of $349.99. The standard edition, featuring the traditional black design, will come equipped with just an arcade stick, priced at $249.99. As part of the console launch, Replai Plaion will also introduce 10 revamped game cartridges, including beloved titles like Metal Slug and The King of Fighters 2002, each available for $89.99. For those who might find these prices steep, remember that the original Neo Geo AES was released at a whopping price of $649.99. Anticipation builds as the Neo Geo AES+ is scheduled to commence shipping on November 12.
