Missouri Mother Accused of Leaving 4-Year-Old Daughter at Truck Stop
Kayla Marie Christensen has been arrested following claims that she left her 4-year-old daughter at a truck stop in Neosho, Missouri, as reported by KZRG. Shockingly, after being questioned by law enforcement, she allegedly denied having a daughter.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, the Neosho Police Department received a report concerning a young child alone in the parking lot of Love’s Travel Stop. This truck stop is located at 12009 E. Highway 86 in Neosho, Missouri, according to a police report obtained by KZRG. Witnesses reported seeing the child exit a black Chevrolet Silverado. Love’s employees discovered the 4-year-old without an accompanying adult and promptly alerted the authorities.
Allegations of Abandonment: Mother Denies Her Daughter and Leaves Sons for Casino
Besides allegedly abandoning her 4-year-old daughter at the truck stop, Christensen is also accused of leaving her two sons unattended in her vehicle while she visited a casino. A collaborative investigation between the Neosho Police Department and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office enabled authorities to identify Christensen.
The Wyandotte Nation Police Department located Christensen’s SUV in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. The 34-year-old mother reportedly traveled to Oklahoma for casino gambling. to leaving her daughter at the truck stop, Christensen is accused of neglecting her two sons by leaving them in the vehicle. When questioned by police after the boys were found unsupervised, she allegedly denied having a daughter, as stated in an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.
“As [the victim’s] mother and person legally responsible for her care, [Christensen] left four-year-old JV1 with the purpose of wholly abandoning her under circumstances likely to result in serious physical injury or death, as evidenced by knowingly driving away, failing to return, and later denying that she had a daughter.”
Following these events, Christensen was arrested and charged with second-degree child abandonment. She also faces three counts of child abuse or neglect.
Additional Legal Troubles: Mother Facing Drug Charges
The reasons behind Christensen’s decision to leave her children unattended remain unclear. she is also facing charges for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, as police reportedly discovered a syringe in her vehicle during their search. the two boys were found without the required car seats or seat belts. As a result, Christensen faces three counts of failing to properly restrain a child. All three children have been placed under the care of the Missouri Children’s Division, and the Newton County Juvenile Office has been informed.
