What is the New World of Janix?

Maul—Shadow Lord is set on a brand new planet called Janix, featuring a capital city built within a massive crater. This unique setting moves the narrative away from familiar locations like Coruscant, allowing for fresh storytelling opportunities. The choice of Janix reflects Maul’s strategic thinking, as he avoids establishing his criminal empire under the nose of his former master, Palpatine.

Who are the TK Troopers?

The trailer introduces the TK Troopers, a new wave of stormtroopers inspired by early concept art from Ralph McQuarrie. These troopers represent the Empire’s transition from clone soldiers to regular recruits, formally introduced around 18 BBY with the Imperial Defense Recruitment Bill. Their presence in the trailer provides context for the timeline of Shadow Lord, set during the early rise of the Empire.

What’s Unique About Maul’s Lightsaber?

The trailer reveals a modified version of Maul‘s iconic lightsaber, now a dual-bladed weapon. This new design incorporates elements from his original saber, previously seen in The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars. The hilt features a design reminiscent of Asajj Ventress‘s weapon from the Dark Disciple novel, adding depth to its history.

Who is Devon Izara?

A key character in the trailer is Devon Izara, a young pink-skinned Twi’lek Jedi. Voiced by Gideon Adlon, she is on the run with her master, Eeko-Dio-Daki (voiced by Dennis Haysbert). As the story unfolds, it appears that Devon may be tempted to join forces with Maul, hinting at a potential dark turn.

What is the Connection to Darth Talon?

Devon’s character raises speculation about the possible introduction of Darth Talon, a character from the expanded universe. Talon, known for her striking red skin and tattoos, was created for the Star Wars Legacy comics. The idea of her becoming Maul’s apprentice aligns with past concepts from George Lucas, who once envisioned her as part of a sequel trilogy storyline.

Who is Rook Kast?

Another intriguing character in the trailer is Rook Kast, a purple-haired Mandalorian who aids Maul. Previously introduced in the Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir comic, Rook’s return in Shadow Lord connects the series to established lore. Her character adds an additional layer of complexity to Maul’s story as he builds his criminal empire.

What Role Does the Imperial Inquisitorius Play?

The trailer also features the Imperial Inquisitorius, sent to hunt down Maul. Among them is the Eleventh Brother and Marrok, a gaseous Inquisitor introduced in Ahsoka. Their presence emphasizes Maul’s ongoing struggle against his former master’s influence and the Empire’s relentless pursuit.

Maul—Shadow Lord premieres on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. Fans eagerly anticipate the series, which promises to deepen the Star Wars narrative.
