Lewis Capaldi recently revealed that he’s been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome.
The singer opened up to his followers during an Instagram live where he announced that he has Tourette’s, a nervous system disorder where one experiences sudden repetitive movements or unintentional sounds.
“I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something,” he told his followers, per Entertainment Tonight.
He went on to say, “The worst thing about it is when I’m excited I get it, when I’m stressed I get it, when I’m happy I get it. It happens all the time.”
He continued, “Some days it’s more painful than others and some days it’s less painful. It looks a lot worse than it is. Sometimes it’s quite uncomfortable … but it comes and goes.”
He noted that he experienced twitches during an interview in 2018, and now that he’s been diagnosed it “makes so much sense.” He also went on to address fans who have expressed concern for the singer, noting, “I do the shoulder twitch quite a lot. And you see underneath every TikTok and stuff, people are like, ‘Why is he twitching?’ which is fine. Curiosity is fine. I get it.”
Capaldi told fans that he’s still learning about his diagnosis, and he recently tried botox on his shoulder in an attempt to stop the twitching, which “worked for a bit.”
The news comes at the start of the promotional period for Capaldi’s upcoming second album. The “Before You Go” singer is set to release its lead single, “Forget Me,” tomorrow, Sept. 9.
