In a recent announcement shared on Stampede Entertainment’s news blog, the dedicated team behind the original Tremors film has provided an exciting update following last fall’s news that they have successfully reclaimed the rights to the original screenplay. This significant development opens up new avenues for the beloved Tremors franchise, which has captivated audiences since its inception.
After months of contemplation, the team has clarified what this means for eager fans of the Tremors series: “We’ve been actively exploring the potential opportunities this presents, so here’s the latest news. Firstly, we are not considering external ideas. Our focus is on a sequel that returns to the beloved town of Perfection, alongside one or two other exciting and unconventional concepts featuring graboids in innovative settings. Whatever we ultimately pitch to Hollywood will not involve remaking the original film with a new cast. Additionally, it will not be a reimagining of our original screenplay for Tremors 5.”
The initial Tremors film led to multiple direct-to-video sequels and even a television series, although a second series intended to bring back the original lead, Kevin Bacon, was unfortunately never aired. Similar to the recent trend seen in a Halloween sequel, there could potentially be a direct follow-up to Tremors featuring the iconic star.
“We are actively considering concepts that would see the return of Kevin Bacon as Val, but we’re not making any guarantees!” Stampede teased, hinting at the potential for nostalgia and excitement.
This idea is certainly compelling—there remains a tremendous amount of affection for the Tremors franchise, and the presence of Bacon enhances any project. Moreover, with the current cinematic trend showcasing giant worms in films like Dune and Beetlejuice, it seems only fitting to include a revival of the graboid phenomenon as well!
