7:32 PM PT — Sources close to Kenan Thompson tell TMZ that this is a contractual disagreement and not about him choosing to not pay rent. Our sources indicate that Kenan never received the keys to the property and had never even stepped foot on the property.
Kenan Thompson is being dragged to court by a landlord, who claims he owes over $34,000 for breaking his lease on a rental home.
According to a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the ‘SNL’ star is being sued for allegedly breaching a 12-month lease for a 3-bedroom rental property in Los Angeles.
The documents reveal that the landlord claims they entered into a written lease agreement with Kenan in September 2025. They assert that the lease started on October 1, 2025, and Kenan agreed to pay ,250 rent for a year before transitioning to a month-to-month lease.
The landlord claims Kenan breached the lease and owes $17,425 in unpaid rent for November and December 2025.
Furthermore, the landlord asserts they had difficulty finding a replacement tenant and could only secure someone to move in at a reduced rent. The landlord says Kenan is responsible for the difference, totaling $15,750 over the duration of the 12-month lease.
The documents show the landlord is also pursuing Kenan for an $871 late fee, a $9,594 broker fee, and $1,000 in legal fees recoverable under the lease.
In total, Kenan’s landlord claims he owes $34,390 after accounting for the $10,250 security deposit he paid.
