Memphis Mother Discovers Intruder Under Her Daughter’s Bed
According to legal documents referenced by Fox News, Kendra Scott had previously expressed her intentions to a witness, reportedly her 13-year-old daughter, stating she would “put a hole” in the head of any boy found in her house. On July 17, it seems this statement became a reality. Police responded to a shooting incident at a residence on Travis Road, where they found a man deceased near the front porch, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Authorities later identified the individual as Rodderius Morton, who was unarmed at the time of the incident.
“I saw a dude under my kid’s bed and I did what I had to do,” Kendra Scott allegedly told authorities following the shooting.
The same witness informed investigators that Scott returned home between 1:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Upon her arrival, she started knocking on the front door and shouting, “Who’s at my house?” Eventually, a minor allowed Kendra entry, leading her to discover Morton hiding beneath her daughter’s bed. As Morton attempted to leave the home, a confrontation ensued between him and Scott. She reportedly shouted, “Get out of my house, b*tch!” and once they reached the front porch, a gunshot was fired. Reports suggest Morton had entered the residence around 1 a.m. through the back door after allegedly being invited in.
Kendra Scott’s Bond Set at $100,000 Following Shooting Incident
Kendra Scott made an appearance in court on Monday, July 20, according to NewsNation. At the conclusion of the hearing, a judge established her bond at $100,000. She faces charges of first-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Her attorney, Blake Ballin, expressed uncertainty regarding the applicability of the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law in this case.
“I don’t know enough about what led to the actual shooting. I don’t know if there was a scuffle, I don’t know if there was an accidental discharge, I just don’t know,” Ballin stated, as reported by Fox News.
Kendra Scott has been prohibited from contacting Morton’s family. She is scheduled to return to court on August 3, according to Fox 12/KPTV.
Rodderius Morton’s Former Teacher Shares Insights
Robin Perkins, a special-needs educator who previously taught Rodderius Morton, spoke to WREG, sharing her experiences with him. She described him as a sweet former student. Perkins expressed her belief that Kendra Scott could have resolved the situation in a manner that did not result in Morton’s death. She conveyed her shock at the incident, recalling Morton as a soft-spoken and respectful young man diagnosed with learning disabilities. she did not endorse his association with a 13-year-old.
“Unbelievable, very, very hurt. Because the young man that I knew, most people, based off this story they don’t know the young man like I did,” Robin Perkins remarked. “I do not condone his actions of going and mingling with a 13-year-old. when you’re not 20, what do you expect? And then I found out last night from his sister that no one knew that he was gone from the house.”
