Jake Whisenant, Record-Breaking Climber, Passes Away at 30

Jake Whisenant, renowned for achieving the fastest ascent of Yosemite’s El Capitan, has sadly passed away, according to various reports.

Reports from the California Post, citing the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Coroner, indicate that Jake passed away on August 3. The specific circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed.

Bailee Moore, a close friend of Jake, honored him on social media, expressing that his loved ones find comfort in knowing he was engaging in his passion at the time of his passing.

Jake gained widespread recognition in 2024 after he and fellow climber Brant Hysell completed the Lurking Fear route on El Capitan in just under three hours, setting a new speed record.

In another remarkable achievement, he and climber Noah Fox successfully ascended The Nose, a challenging rock formation in Yosemite, twice in a single day, a feat that took over 14 hours.

Jake was only 30 years old.
