After experimenting with it over the previous few months, Instagram has now rolled out its new “Flipside” various profile choice to a small subset of customers.
As you possibly can see in these screenshots, shared by social media skilled Matt Navarra, Instagram’s “Flipside” possibility offers an alternate profile area which is simply accessible to you and your chosen connections.
When you’ve created a Flipside, you possibly can then choose it as your put up viewers, which means your put up will solely go to that area. You may then go to and examine your Flipside as a substitute profile gallery, the place it’s also possible to add a brand new profile title and film, if you happen to select.
It’s one other manner for IG to lean into extra non-public sharing, which has been a key pattern of observe in social apps of late. Fewer individuals at the moment are posting to their public feeds, with extra preferring to keep up smaller, nearer knit engagement communities, which Instagram, specifically, has famous as a major shift.
Certainly, again in 2022, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri mentioned that IG customers had been posting a lot more to stories, and sending much more DMs, than they had been posting to their essential feed. In consequence, Instagram has since added inbox Notes to encourage non-public interactions, collaborative collections of IG posts that may be shared with particular customers, and DM Channels, the place you possibly can observe excessive profile customers.
Flipside is one other iteration of the identical, which additionally expands on Instagram’s previous experiments to allow multi-profile administration, so you possibly can have completely different personas within the app.
Will or not it’s a winner? It’s arduous to say, however I assume that it’s aimed toward youthful customers, which Instagram actually needs to maintain a maintain of, as they migrate to TikTok and Snapchat as a substitute. Notes has confirmed standard with teenagers, and possibly, Flipside will as effectively, offering one other means for IG to facilitate extra engagement, in step with developments.
We’ll have to attend and see, because it’s not accessible to all customers, in all areas, simply but.
We’ll maintain you up to date on any progress.
