YouTube users now have the empowering ability to effectively manage their viewing habits by removing short-form videos from their feeds. With the latest update, YouTube has introduced a groundbreaking feature that allows users to set their Shorts feed limit to zero minutes, a significant step towards curbing the tendency to doomscroll, particularly on mobile devices. Previously, when YouTube launched the Shorts feed limit in October of last year, the minimum limit available was 15 minutes. After this time elapses, users receive a prompt encouraging them to take a break from watching.
In a move to enhance user experience, YouTube has also integrated this feature with parental controls, enabling parents to establish viewing time limits for younger audiences. Earlier this year, YouTube indicated that parents would soon gain access to the option of setting the timer to zero. Now, this capability is available not only for parents but also for all users. We can confirm that the zero minutes option has been activated in our adult account, allowing us to embrace a healthier viewing experience. When selected, users may encounter a notification indicating, “Scrolling is paused but you may still see individual Shorts.” Additionally, refreshing the app may be necessary for the short-form videos to fully disappear from the feed.
To effectively block Shorts from appearing in your feed, navigate to the Settings page within the YouTube app on your mobile device. Look for the Time management section and scroll down to Daily limits, where you will find the Shorts feed limit settings. If completely removing Shorts is not your preference, you may choose from the other available options, with the maximum time limit being set at two hours.
