X has launched an exciting opportunity for creators to craft unique interpretations of Homer’s The Odyssey utilizing its innovative Grok Imagine artificial intelligence tools.

This competition appears to stem from Elon Musk’s personal desire to produce an alternative retelling of the classic tale, driven by his dissatisfaction with Christopher Nolan’s recent adaptation. Consequently, X is offering cash prizes to users who can best depict Odysseus’ journey through its AI tools.
According to X: “Create a compelling scene from Homer’s The Odyssey that showcases the capabilities of Grok Imagine’s video and voice features. We’re offering $100K, $50K, and $25K to the top three videos submitted by quoting this post.”
Entries must be between 3 and 5 minutes long and include at least 1 minute of dialogue in English.
X stated, “Entries will be evaluated based on Verified Premium Home Timeline impressions, followed by a judgment of their quality and creativity.” Eligibility is limited to U.S. users aged 18 and older. The contest will conclude on August 31st, 2026, with winners announced shortly after.
This initiative represents X’s latest effort to encourage user engagement through monetary rewards, while simultaneously highlighting its newest features and boosting platform usage.
Earlier this year, X rewarded a $1 million prize for the most popular X article of the month as part of a strategy to promote long-form content on the platform. X also offered a $1 million prize for the best Super Bowl ad created using Grok, with the winning entries featured in an X promotional campaign.
Nevertheless, these incentive programs have generated only temporary engagement, indicating that X often loses momentum with such initiatives.
In November 2025, X introduced a “Certified Bangers” account, intended to showcase the month’s best X posts. X subsequently highlighted the top bangers for that month but then discontinued posting to the account.
X’s initiative to reimagine The Odyssey also carries a notable emphasis, as Musk has asserted that his Grok AI tools will produce a better version of the story than Nolan’s interpretation before year-end.
Musk has publicly criticized Nolan for “desecrating” the narrative by casting diverse actors in pivotal roles. Musk further described Nolan as “an anti-white racist,” accusing him of “showing total contempt for the Greek people.”
It’s essential to remember that both Homer’s The Odyssey and Nolan’s film are fictional works and do not represent historical fact.
Regardless, Musk’s discontent is apparent, and when the world’s wealthiest individual feels slighted, he takes action.
This action may lead to a surge of AI-generated versions of the story, featuring generic visual interpretations paired with derivative soundtracks. Musk will likely proclaim these AI renditions as superior to Nolan’s interpretation, which seems to be his primary objective.
Thus, he is allocating $175k to make what he perceives as a clever statement. While opinions may differ on its cleverness, it is ultimately his resources to utilize.
