Following the 2025 Grammy Awards, Tina Knowles took to her Instagram platform to commend the Recording Academy for its commendable efforts in honoring Black artists. This recognition came after significant wins from her daughter, Beyoncé Knowles, along with other prominent artists like Kendrick Lamar and Doechii, marking a pivotal moment in the event.

Tina acknowledged that she previously refrained from attending the Grammy Awards due to a lack of respect for Black artists. However, she felt compelled to give credit to the Recording Academy for making the “right choice” in an environment often described as “racist” by acknowledging a diverse range of Black talent during the awards ceremony.

“In previous years, I made the personal decision to not attend the Grammys, not solely because of my daughter’s participation, but also due to my perception of unequal treatment towards Black artists. They could perform brilliantly and enhance the show’s ratings, yet still be sidelined. The cameras would focus on their disappointment rather than their talent. It’s commendable how the Academy stood firm amidst tremendous pressure to overlook or downplay the extraordinary achievements of Black individuals,” Tina expressed.

“It required immense courage and integrity to take such a stand,” she added, emphasizing the significance of the Academy’s choices.

Tina also recognized Harvey Jay Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, for his transparency regarding the significant changes the Grammys have implemented in response to previous criticisms about the lack of diversity in its nominees and voting members.

“I was truly moved by Mr. Harvey Mason’s speech, where he acknowledged the necessity for change. Thank you, Grammys, for your boldness, bravery, and for doing what is right,” she remarked. “❤️❤️❤️ There’s a saying that God may not always come when we want, but He arrives at the perfect moment. Grammys, this recognition happened at the right time!”

In addition to winning the award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her song “II Most Wanted” alongside Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé also secured a Grammy for Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter, and triumphantly took home the Album of the Year award for her groundbreaking foray into country music, a category where she had faced multiple nominations and near-wins in the past.

However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm for Beyoncé’s success in the country genre.

John Rich, a member of the duo Big & Rich, took to social media during the 2025 Grammy Awards to criticize the decision to award Beyoncé with the Best Country Album title over Lainey Wilson.

“Beyoncé wins ‘Best Country Album’ at The Grammys 🤣🤣 Way to go! 🤣🤣,” he commented, igniting a conversation among fans. A supporter responded, “Of course, the Grammys had to push their agenda instead of genuinely honoring real country artists. It’s a total joke!”

In response, Rich simply replied, “🤡 show,” indicating his discontent with the situation.

When someone questioned how the voting process worked, mentioning, “There’s NO WAY her album was better than Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind, I don’t get it,” Rich alleged that “Record labels are making deals regarding the votes.”

He followed up with more bold assertions, stating, “People are asking me ‘how do music award shows work?’ Labels and publishers all have blocks of votes. They make deals with one another like ‘you vote for mine, I’ll vote for yours.’ It has ZERO to do with who created the best music, hence Beyoncé winning ‘Country Album of the Year.’ Smart, right?”

Rich further stated, “The same issue applies to the CMA, ACM, Billboard, and others; they all operate in a similar manner. Last night, the Grammys revealed themselves in a significant way,” although it should be noted that Beyoncé was notably overlooked by the CMAs.

His final tweet on the matter read, “.@laineywilson > @Beyonce” — a viewpoint echoed by many in the comments on Wilson’s Instagram, despite her remaining silent about her loss. Both Wilson and Kacey Musgraves were seen applauding Knowles as she accepted her award on stage.

“I believe that sometimes genre is a euphemism used to maintain certain artists in their designated positions,” Beyoncé expressed during her acceptance speech. “I encourage everyone to pursue their passions and to remain persistent in their endeavors.”
