Elon Musk Urged by Soulja Boy to Buy TikTok Amid Ban

As the threat of a TikTok ban looms in the U.S., Soulja Boy is making a passionate plea for the popular app to remain operational. The rapper has taken his advocacy a step further by reaching out directly to Elon Musk, expressing his hope that the billionaire entrepreneur can play a crucial role in ensuring the app’s survival amidst these challenges.

Soulja Boy Urges Elon Musk to Intervene and Save TikTok

On Thursday, December 12, Soulja Boy took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts with Elon Musk. The iconic ‘Crank Dat’ rapper proposed that the founder of Tesla consider stepping in to rescue TikTok, which faces the serious possibility of a ban in the United States. His tweet reflects both concern for the platform’s future and an acknowledgment of Musk’s influence in the tech world.

“Yo @elonmusk what you think about buying TikTok? Or will running X and that platform be too much on the table?” Soulja wrote.

While Elon Musk has yet to respond to Soulja’s intriguing proposition, the tweet has already sparked a wave of reactions across social media, highlighting the public’s interest in both the fate of TikTok and Musk’s potential involvement.

Public Reaction to Soulja Boy’s Call for Help

Social media users had a lot to say regarding Soulja Boy’s suggestion directed at Elon Musk, particularly in The Shade Room’s comment section. The general sentiment leaned towards skepticism; many commenters expressed their reluctance to see Musk interfere with TikTok, fearing that his involvement could lead to unfavorable changes on the platform. This reaction illustrates the passionate attachment users have to TikTok and their wariness of significant shifts in its management.

Another user, @_tihaniboss wrote, Hey Soulja, why don’t you be the first rapper to buy TikTok? 😭”

Additionally, user @mheenarh__ commented, TikTok is doing perfectly fine under whoever is in control.”

Another voice from Instagram, user @thatdaneshguy, remarked, Why even give him that idea?”

Lastly, user @unemployed.mike expressed, TikTok said they don’t care how much money people have; it’s not up for sale.”

In a strong sentiment, Instagram user @martaruizdesigner added, “I do prefer for it to get banned if Elon buys it. 🤦🏾‍♀️”

Understanding the Current Legal Battles Surrounding TikTok

According to The Shade Room, the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. recently rejected TikTok’s efforts to overturn a law aimed at its China-based parent company, ByteDance. This law requires TikTok to sever ties with ByteDance, or it risks facing a ban in the U.S. by mid-January. TikTok has argued that this ruling infringes upon its First Amendment rights; however, the court did not agree with this argument. Now, TikTok and ByteDance are planning to escalate their case to the Supreme Court, although it remains uncertain if the case will be heard. In the meantime, TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes expresses optimism, asserting that despite this setback, the app will ultimately prevail in the legal arena.

“The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans’ right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue. Unfortunately, the TikTok ban was conceived and pushed through based upon inaccurate, flawed, and hypothetical information, resulting in outright censorship of the American people,” Hughes stated in a public announcement.
