Charges Filed Against Suarez Following Fatal Upper Manhattan Crash
As reported by law enforcement, Elvin Suarez, a resident of Morningside Heights, faces multiple charges including manslaughter, vehicular assault, and driving under the influence. This follows a collision that tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left three others critically injured. Authorities indicated that Suarez’s breathalyzer test registered at .10 — exceeding the legal limit — after he lost control of his vehicle near Amsterdam Avenue and West 109th Street around 6 p.m., just a few blocks from his residence.
Tragic Sidewalk Collision Claims Lives of Two Men
Investigators reported that the incident began when Suarez allegedly sideswiped another vehicle, causing his car to veer onto the sidewalk and instigating a chain reaction that involved seven vehicles. The out-of-control Mercedes struck a group of patrons outside a local barbershop, fatally injuring 35-year-old father of triplets, Michael Saint-Hilaire, and 46-year-old doorman, Jason Negron. Emergency responders rushed both victims to the hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries. investigators closed part of Amsterdam Avenue Friday evening to process the scene and remove damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Emergency teams also transported three additional men, aged 36, 44, and 51, to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition. Witnesses described the scene as horrific, with one onlooker referring to it as a “horror show,” noting that a vehicle pinned one victim against a parking structure. Another witness mentioned that the driver seemed to have a close relationship with some of the victims, adding a heartbreaking dimension to an already devastating situation as the investigation unfolds.
