Instagram is significantly enhancing its Direct Message (DM) features by expanding access to translation and scheduling tools. This update enables a greater number of businesses to leverage these tools, ultimately creating more opportunities for engagement and interaction with potential clients and customers.
It’s important to note that these features are not entirely new. Instagram has been working on both the DM translation and scheduling functionalities for a while, and many users have already had access to them for several months. However, the platform is now actively promoting these features specifically as tools for business engagement, prompting businesses to consider how they can enhance their professional outreach strategies.
Let’s first examine the DM translation feature, which Instagram began testing earlier this year. With this update, more businesses can now access the ability to translate messages, potentially allowing you to reach out to international markets and expand your business reach into new regions.
According to Instagram:
“Want to take your business global? Now you can translate your DMs into 99 different languages.”
To utilize the translation feature, simply press and hold on the specific DM, and then select the “Translate” option. The translated text will then appear directly beneath the original message in your chat stream, making it easy to communicate effectively with users from different linguistic backgrounds.
Additionally, you can choose a language preference, allowing your DMs to be automatically translated into your native language for a more seamless communication experience.
This feature can significantly enhance cross-border communication, and as previously mentioned, it can open up a wealth of new opportunities for your business to engage with a more diverse audience.
In addition to translations, Instagram is also granting more business users access to the scheduling feature for Direct Messages.
This means you can now ensure that your messages are sent at the most optimal times, aligning with the local time zones of your audience, which can significantly improve the effectiveness of your communication strategy.
To schedule a DM, simply type your message, press and hold the “Send” button, and you’ll be prompted to select the date and time for when you wish your message to be delivered. This feature allows for more thoughtful engagement with your audience.
The overall impact of this scheduling feature can be nuanced, as many users prefer immediate responses at all times. Nevertheless, there are specific scenarios where delaying the sending of a DM can make sense, particularly in terms of improving your connection with your audience and being more considerate of their time.
Instagram initiated testing for scheduled DMs back in December and has been progressively rolling them out to a broader user base across various regions. While this feature may not be unfamiliar to many, Instagram is now actively promoting it as a valuable opportunity specifically for business users.
These updates, or reminders of existing functionalities, can be incredibly useful as you refine your Instagram marketing strategy and look for ways to enhance your brand engagement through improved communication on the platform.
