If you currently don’t subscribe to Disney+ but are eager to watch Percy Jackson & the Olympians, you’re in luck: it is now available for legal viewing on Netflix.
A new agreement between Disney and Netflix allows Percy Jackson and other Disney content to be featured on Netflix. Starting on Monday, October 4, the first two seasons of Percy Jackson will be accessible on Netflix, just in time for the premiere of the highly anticipated third season in November. This deal also includes all five Ice Age movies, with the sixth installment set to release in February. By 2027, the collaboration will expand further to include popular Disney Animation and Pixar films such as Soul, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Elio.
Importantly, this licensed content will not be available on Disney+, alleviating concerns for fans worried about losing access to beloved titles. The primary goal appears to be broadening the reach of select titles for audiences who may hesitate to subscribe to multiple streaming services. For both Percy Jackson and Ice Age, the advantages are evident. The films get a renewed opportunity to attract viewers who might have missed them upon their initial release. For instance, Raya launched during the pandemic, and Elio faced challenges with its production and marketing.
Unfortunately, this agreement seems to favor Netflix, as there are no indications of content transferring from Netflix to Disney+. It’s disappointing, but that’s the nature of licensing agreements.
