Deceased Infant Discovered in Portable Restroom by Festival Staff
The Michigan State Police confirmed that the infant was a neonate, indicating that it was less than four weeks old. An employee from the porta-potty service reportedly made the grim discovery while conducting routine maintenance in the festival’s camping area. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Patrick Agema informed TMZ that it remains unclear whether the baby was born alive. The autopsy report, which could shed light on this matter, has not yet been provided to local authorities. The Electric Forest festival takes place annually at the Double JJ Resort, and this incident occurred on the final day of the event. Currently, there are no leads in the ongoing investigation.
Investigation Continues as Cause of Death Remains Unknown
Lt. Agema also stated that a forensic pathologist conducted an autopsy on the infant, yet the specific cause of death has not been disclosed. The Michigan State Police is actively seeking information from anyone who may have insights related to the situation.
“The Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation into the discovery of a deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival,” the MSP stated. “Investigators are requesting the public’s help. If you were in the vicinity and noticed anything unusual, or if you possess any information that could be relevant, we encourage you to reach out. Anyone with information should contact the Michigan State Police.”
Sources from NBC affiliate Wood TV 8 indicated that authorities reportedly found the baby’s placenta and umbilical cord within the portable restroom, implying that the infant may have been born there. The autopsy report allegedly mentions the presence of fluid in the infant’s stomach and lungs, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.
Investigation Status: Death Not Yet Classified as Homicide
Currently, the Michigan State Police are investigating the death, but they have not classified it as a homicide. Retired detective Lew Langham from the Michigan State Police spoke with FOX 17 News, indicating that the investigators are likely searching for the infant’s mother.
“What the police are really looking for are persons of interest,” Langham explained. “They want to determine what happened, who was involved, and why this occurred.”
