Daniil Medvedev faced a shocking incident during his semifinal match against Novak Djokovic. The match abruptly concluded when Medvedev unintentionally hit a tennis ball into a fan’s face.
Prior to the disqualification, Djokovic had Medvedev on the brink of defeat. He secured the first set and was leading in the second, 5 games to 3. In a moment of recklessness, Medvedev sent the ball into the stands, striking a spectator who was immediately seen clutching their eye.

The spectator who was struck was promptly escorted from the venue and taken to a hospital. Fortunately, reports indicate that the injury does not appear to be serious.
Match officials temporarily halted the game before ultimately deciding to disqualify Medvedev, who is currently ranked fifth in the world.
In the aftermath of the incident, Medvedev expressed that it was “100% an accident.”
He further stated, “You can see that I didn’t hit the ball in anger. The most important thing is that I hope he’s okay, you never know with these types of situations.”
