WhatsApp is enhancing user experience by introducing exciting new chat themes, allowing you to personalize your in-stream conversations with vibrant backgrounds, unique chat bubbles, and an array of customization options.
This feature has been highly sought after by users, showcasing the growing demand for personalization in messaging applications.
WhatsApp elaborates on this enhancement:
“You can now customize your chat bubbles and background with your favorite colors, choosing from a wide selection. Opt for one of our pre-set chat themes that alter both your background and bubble colors, or mix and match to create a style that reflects your personality.”
Now, users can change the color of their chat bubbles, which, while a basic feature compared to what’s available in other apps, marks a significant step forward for WhatsApp’s customization options. For instance, on platforms like Instagram, users can leverage generative AI to craft new chat backgrounds based on text prompts, showcasing a higher level of creativity.
However, considering that WhatsApp has traditionally maintained its characteristic green and brown color palette, this update represents a meaningful shift in how users can customize their chats.
In addition, WhatsApp is introducing 30 new wallpaper options for your chats, providing even more opportunities for personalization. Users can also create their own wallpapers, although AI-generated designs will not be an option at this time.
This feature could bring a refreshing twist to your conversations, allowing you to incorporate new visual elements and colors to enliven your discussions and enhance your messaging experience.
Users can choose to apply their selected theme universally across all chats or customize settings for individual conversations. Regardless of the choice made, the chat themes are only visible to the user, ensuring that personal preferences do not alter the experience for others, unlike some other messaging applications.
“To modify the theme for all your chats and channels, navigate to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme. For individual chat customization, tap the chat name at the top of the screen (iOS) or access the 3-dot menu (Android) > Chat theme.”
While these updates could enhance the user’s experience within the app, it would truly benefit users if they could implement changes that would also be visible to everyone within a chat, fostering a more cohesive communal feel.
WhatsApp has announced that these innovative chat themes are beginning to roll out today, with a global rollout expected to take place over the next few weeks.
