Following its showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Netflix has revealed an exciting lineup of animated projects set to premiere on the platform in the coming months and beyond. This announcement includes exclusive first looks at various upcoming series, films, and anime that fans have been eagerly anticipating, enhancing our excitement for what’s to come.
In a thrilling update, Netflix released the debut teaser for WIT Studio’s much-anticipated remake of The One Piece. While we were already aware that the series would consist of seven episodes, this marks the first opportunity to witness the anime in motion. Netflix provided a comprehensive English-dubbed trailer featuring the Straw Hats embarking on their adventurous journey. The One Piece is set to premiere on Netflix in February 2027.
Next on the list are fresh visuals from Flying Bark Productions’ upcoming animated series, Ghostbusters: Night Shift. Prior to this drop, we had only seen promotional artwork and received a vague release window for next year. Now, we can enjoy sleek new images, a compelling logline that hints at the story, and the excitement of additional adventures within the franchise’s eerie supernatural universe. The logline reads:
New York City, 1994 – Five years after the Ghostbusters famously took the Statue of Liberty for a stroll, a fresh wave of supernatural chaos descends upon the Big Apple. A group of resourceful, young New Yorkers—untrained, undervalued, and somewhat responsible for the situation—must don proton packs, confront their fears, and capture some ghosts.
Continuing with the announcements, Netflix also showcased Brad Bird’s upcoming sci-fi detective film, Ray Gunn, featuring an impressive cast including Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Waits. Alongside a fresh glimpse of the main characters, a release date was confirmed for December 18, 2026. Here’s the intriguing plot synopsis:
Set in Metropia, a sprawling city envisioned from a 1939 perspective, private investigator Raymond Gunn becomes embroiled in a complex case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia celebrity named Venus Nova.
Wrapping up Netflix’s announcements was a fresh trailer for the anime studio Outline’s upcoming film, The Ribbon Hero. This film, inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s cherished manga Princess Knight, follows Princess Sapphire as she bravely takes up arms to protect her kingdom from various menacing creatures threatening her subjects. The Ribbon Hero is set to be released on August 8th.
Additional highlights from today’s Annecy announcements include Ricky Gervais’ adult animated cat-themed series Alley Cats, set to premiere on August 7; Steps, a feature-length reinterpretation of Cinderella focusing on the princess’s sisters, featuring a star-studded cast including Ali Wong, Amanda Seyfried, Stephanie Hsu, Nikki Glaser, and Bette Midler, arriving on November 20; and In Waves, a film exploring the love story between a surfer girl and a skateboarder, starring Will Sharpe and Hsu, scheduled for December 11.
To today’s announcements, it was revealed that the hit-man-turned-family-man anime Sakamoto Days is set to receive a second season, expected to debut on the streamer next year. We also got a glimpse of Mizu in the second season of Blue Eye Samurai. Unfortunately, fans will need to wait a bit longer to discover whether Mizu will seek revenge on her neglectful father, as its release date is still listed as “coming soon.” Patience is a virtue, as they say.
