Providing insight into the chaotic scene, NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera reported that around 11:30 p.m. on January 1, a group of four males approached the Amazura venue. In a shocking turn of events, three to four individuals began firing more than 30 shots towards the crowd gathered outside, resulting in multiple injuries. The chief emphasized that there is a “zero tolerance” policy towards such senseless acts of violence, and he assured the public that those responsible would face the full force of the law.
At the time of the incident, approximately 90 people were inside the Amazura nightclub. Tragically, ten individuals sustained injuries from the gunfire that erupted on 144th Place in Queens. Among the injured, six are female and four are male, all aged between 16 and 20, and reports indicate that they are expected to survive their injuries, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News. This violent outburst occurred during a celebration honoring the life of late 16-year-old Taearion Mungo, who was tragically killed in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, back in October 2024.
Authorities have indicated that around 30 shots were fired during the chaotic scene before the suspects fled the location in a gray Infinity vehicle bearing out-of-state license plates, further complicating the investigation.
