Corie Walsh‘s former high school friend expresses difficulty in reconciling the person she once knew with the harrowing allegations now surrounding the Illinois mother accused of taking her 2-year-old son’s life.
The former classmate shared with TMZ that her memories of Corie during their time at a small Catholic school were overwhelmingly positive. Although they lost touch after graduation, she recalls Walsh as “beautiful, kind, intelligent, talented, and generous.”
When she learned about the shocking allegations of the murder, she was overwhelmed with disbelief, stating, “Never in a million years could I have imagined something so tragic.”
One particular detail troubles her deeply: the claim that Walsh allegedly told authorities she perceived her son as the “devil” and “anti-Christ.” When questioned about whether she recognized such religious notions from her past interactions with Walsh, the former friend replied, “Not at all.”
She elaborates that while they were raised in a Catholic environment and frequently attended Mass, their participation was primarily due to their enrollment in a Catholic school. She emphasized, “None of us were church freaks.” Although Walsh took part in religious activities, her friend insists that Walsh was not someone who appeared overly religious or fearful of God.
The allegations arise as Walsh’s defense claims she was undergoing a psychotic episode at the time of her son’s tragic death.
Prosecutors have indicated that Walsh had become deeply engrossed in the Lindsay Clancy case, discussing it with friends mere hours before her son Barrett was discovered deceased. authorities have yet to determine if the Clancy case played a role in her actions.
The former friend has not maintained contact with Walsh since high school and refrains from speculating about the woman Walsh has become, her life experiences, or the circumstances leading to this alleged tragedy. She expresses her heartfelt sorrow for all those impacted, particularly for the loss of an innocent child.
