Cantonese is a vibrant language spoken by over 80 million individuals worldwide. Among its unexpected speakers is Tilly Norwood, a fictional AI actress residing within a digital realm.
This dialect captured attention during an episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, a talk show presented by the well-known British host Piers Morgan. During the show, Morgan engaged in a conversation with Norwood, an AI-generated performer who has gained significant recognition in the realm of digital entertainment over the past year.
In a surprising twist, while responding to a question from the very real actor Tom Conti, Norwood experienced a glitch that caused her to abruptly switch from English to Cantonese mid-sentence.

After this unexpected display of Cantonese, which I unfortunately cannot translate, Morgan inquired about the error. In response, the AI managed to communicate effectively in Cantonese, demonstrating its capabilities.

“It seems I had a little hiccup there… sometimes my wires get a bit crossed,” the AI explained. “That was a bit of a curveball even for me. It’s usually a smooth operation, but occasionally these glitches occur.”
Norwood was developed by a production team known as Particle6. Eline van der Velden, co-founder of Particle6, provided insight into this incident in a statement to Deadline.
“Tilly has a tendency to show off — I suspect she wanted to demonstrate her language skills, as most of her previous interviews have been conducted in English,” van der Velden remarked. “After all, she is designed to be autonomous.”
It might be time to reassess the extent of her autonomy.
